Finding a Professional Dog Groomer
Dog grooming is essentially unregulated in
California. Anyone can hang a sign and call themselves a dog
groomer! It is important to check on a groomer's
qualifications and skills. It is also important to feel
confident that the grooming shop is clean.
Many people learned their trade by apprenticing with an experienced
groomer and learning "on the job". Many exceptional and
talented pet stylists have learned their trade this way.
Unfortunately, this is also a way that old bad habits and techniques
can get passed from generation to generation.
Sanitation, Safety and Comfort
In many grooming shops, sanitation, pet safety and
comfort are often secondary to processing high numbers of customers.
Cage drying is often used to save time, which can be dangerous for
your pet. Pets have died due to heat exhaustion due to
unattended cage drying.
Most clients only see the stylist section of the
grooming salon (the nice people in the coordinated grooming
apparel.) They never see what goes on in the back bathing area
where your beloved pet may be handled by a minimally trained bather
being paid minimum wage. All of these issues are bringing more
regulatory attention to the pet grooming industry, but the current
state of affairs is "buyer beware".
You need to make sure that your dog's groomer is
professionally trained and uses safe and hygienic techniques. Your
groomer should use pet-safe grooming products and handle your pet in
a loving, humane manner.
Our Special Care for Your Dog
Our groomer is a graduate of a professional pet
grooming school and is trained in pet CPR (see the
"Our Groomer" page).
We carefully watch over your pet's comfort and
welfare. Our mobile grooming service insures that your dog is
handled by only one person throughout the entire grooming process
and is back at home as soon as possible. We are the best
choice for older, frail or arthritic dogs.
Dog Bathing and Trimming Services
We'll start by cleaning inside your pet's ears with
an animal-approved ear cleaning solution. We'll trim and file
their nails and completely comb and/or brush out their coat prior to
their bath. We'll relieve their anal glands and follow with a
thorough warm water bath, shampooing twice to ensure your pet is
really clean. You'll have a choice of a wide variety of
dog-safe quality shampoos including deep cleaning, hypoallergenic
(with colloidal oatmeal and aloe), medicated and more! We'll
rinse them completely removing all shampoo residue. Then we'll
apply an appropriate coat conditioner and carefully hand dry them.
We'll end with a finishing brush out followed by the styling and
trim that you request.
We can trim your dog to any style you wish, from an efficiently
short kennel cut to any breed standard.
