Don't Treat Your Cat Like a Dog!

Cats Need Grooming?!?
Traditionally, cats have been thought to be "self
grooming". Its also thought that cats absolutely hate water!
The truth is that your cat will greatly benefit from regular bathing
and grooming. Regular care by a professional groomer can help
reduce vomited hairballs from all that "self grooming". Cat
dander will also be reduced while the health of your cat's skin and
coat will blossom.
Greasy Coats
Cats are actually very greasy. Body oils
accumulate in the coat collecting soil, clogging pores and causing
dandruff and other skin problems. Regular grooming will
prevent matting (a severe problem in long coated breeds).
Even short haired breeds benefit from regular
bathing. You'll be incredibly surprised and delighted with the
soft clean feel and beautiful shine your cat will have after a
grooming session with Purrfection. Your cat will be delighted too!
Don't Cat Hate Water?
And no, cats don't melt in water! Once they
become used to this new experience (and we know that many cats don't
appreciate "new experiences") most will actually relax in the warm
bath and tolerate the experience very well.
What cats really hate is cold water, having water
sprayed in their face and generally being treated like a dog.
Finding a Professional Cat Groomer
Cat owners searching for a professional groomer
often tell us of their frustration. Most pet groomers chose
their profession because they love dogs, and that's great! On
the other hand, it seems like many groomers don't really appreciate
or understand cats. Many won't even touch a cat!
Cat grooming is often called "Kung Foo Grooming" in the pet grooming
world. Sounds kind of adversarial, doesn't it? Simply
put, the types of discipline and control that are used while
grooming dogs simply don't work with cats. Some practices are
even dangerous to the cat. Trying to let a cat "know who's
boss" just never works! Cats know who the boss is...THEM!
How to Groom a Cat
Grooming cats can be time consuming and requires
patience. An uncooperative 10lb cat is equal to an
uncooperative 50lb dog. Cats often require a second groomer to
control the pet.
Grooming cats can be dangerous. A cat bite is
much more serious than a dog bite. Groomers have even lost
fingers due to infection from cat bites. One good cat bite and
a groomer is out of work.
Safety and Comfort
Those groomers that do work with cats
often do it badly. Many will use a groomer's loop around a
cat's neck, which is a terrible strangling risk on a cat. They
will groom cats in the presence of barking dogs, multiple noisy
driers, loud music and other frightening sounds and smells. They
will use dog washing techniques on cats, which produce poor results.
They will leave a wet cat shivering on a counter, surrounded by
dogs, waiting to be dried. They will cage dry to avoid
handling a very stressed out and frightened cat.
